When keeping a ritual is not enough

 Acts 21:27-29

Paul was appeasing the Jews by keeping a Jewish ritual but that wasn't enough for the Jewish Christians.  They were so willing to keep the Jewish law they wanted to kill Paul.  They didn't see Paul's point of view that the Gentiles needed to be reached for Christ.

Lord Jesus, sometimes the church is very dysfunctional.  I don't know why you allow this to happen but I do know our fight is not against flesh and blood "but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12b)  Help us to recognize this to stay strong in Your Kingdom.  Give us wisdom and courage to do what is right in Jesus name.

The Holy Spirit comes

  Act 2:1-4 Jesus said He had to leave in order for the Holy Spirit to come.  I have a theory that while Jesus walked the earth He had the Holy Spirit all to Himself but on the day of Pentecost (as described here) the Spirit was released on all the disciples that were gathered together.  It was a spectacular event with wind and what looked to be tongues of fire and what made it unique is they could speak in other languages. Lord Jesus, please help us to communicate with those that speak other languages.  I know You separated us by our languages because we were trying to be like god but at Pentecost You united us again.  Help us to remember You are God and we are just Your servants so You can use us to increase Your Kingdom.  Amen
