The Holy Spirit

 Acts 8:14-17

Philip was a regular man.  He was chosen to care for the poor in the early church yet he had a heart for sharing his faith.  He did so in Samaria and even Simon the magician believed him when he taught of Jesus death and resurrection yet one thing was missing, he didn't present the Holy Spirit.  Peter and John heard about the new believers in Samaria and went there to support Philip and realized no one had been filled with the Holy Spirit so they placed their hands on them to receive the Holy Spirit.

Lord Jesus, as we see the evidence of You living on earth, and understand the significance of Your death and resurrection help us to not forget the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit the produces fruit in us of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.  Fill us today with Your Holy Spirit. Amen

The Holy Spirit comes

  Act 2:1-4 Jesus said He had to leave in order for the Holy Spirit to come.  I have a theory that while Jesus walked the earth He had the Holy Spirit all to Himself but on the day of Pentecost (as described here) the Spirit was released on all the disciples that were gathered together.  It was a spectacular event with wind and what looked to be tongues of fire and what made it unique is they could speak in other languages. Lord Jesus, please help us to communicate with those that speak other languages.  I know You separated us by our languages because we were trying to be like god but at Pentecost You united us again.  Help us to remember You are God and we are just Your servants so You can use us to increase Your Kingdom.  Amen
